Throwback: Buck Owens – Made in Japan

This week’s throwback is a Buck Owens single from 1972 called “Made in Japan.” The single was the last number one country hit that Owens made as a solo artist.

“Made in Japan” is a tonally absurd gem that combines the traditional country-western twang with a somewhat Japanese-sounding style. From the opening lines of “My transistor radio comes from far away, and when it’s night over here, over there it’s breaking day,” the song immediately showcases Owens’¬†accent and what he calls the “Bakersfield Sound.”

Listen to “Made in Japan” below and stay tuned to PGM for updates, throwbacks, and more.
