In the buildup to the release of 2012’s “Duality,” mystery surrounded the identity of Captain Murphy, the anonymous rapper who seemed to have appeared from nowhere. Theories abounded as to who the rapper really was, with one particularly memorable theory positing that it was the combined forces of Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. Several weeks after the release of that mixtape, it was finally revealed that it was indeed the rapping identity of left-field producer Flying Lotus, which made the most sense given all the clues we’d been given.

Captain Murphy is set to make an appearance on FlyLo’s upcoming album, “You’re Dead!” and today we’ve been treated to a hallucinogenic origin story via Adult Swim. It perfectly matches the obscured origins of Captain Murphy in real life, and elevates his character to a mythical level, which is fitting for someone with such a badass name. Anyways, the video features original music from FlyLo, and finishes with a “To be continued…” screen, so don’t be surprised if FlyLo uses the next entry in this series to debut his Captain Murphy-featuring album cut.
