Pop-grunge doesn’t always work, but on Only Real’s “Pass the Pain” the genres blend together perfectly.

Only Real’s thick British accent lends the song some character, while the fuzzy guitars and vocal distortion on the hook take the track far out of the formulaic pop-rock realm.

There’s almost a Mac DeMarco quality to the song, although it has a little too much fire and emotion in it to fit in Mac’s wheelhouse.

Still, “Pass the Pain” is a fun track, perfect for the last dregs of summer.
