Ryn Weaver – “OctaHate”
Chances are if you’ve been on a music blog already today you probably have heard Ryn Weaver’s fantastic first single “OctaHate.” Yeah, it’s blowing up that fast.
Weaver teamed with Michael Angelakos from Passion Pit, Charli XCX, Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat to produce the track, and the influence is obvious from the songs frantic swells to the vocal chops and infectious synth melodies that punctuate the outro.
You might expect this to be a “too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen” scenario, but the four producers compliment each other beautifully.
Still, the main attraction here is Weaver’s voice, which has more power and resonance than your run-of-the-mill pop singer. She switches registers effortlessly and shows just enough passion and desperation to really sell the hook.
Don’t be surprised if “OctaHate” is on a whole lot of year-end Top 10 lists.
