Marz Leon – “L O N E R”
While the growing influence of EDM in pop music has led to a lot of boring Avicii-style tracks, it has also allowed a lot of solo acts to use a completely different set of tools for putting their music together. Marz Leon falls into the latter category, and her single “L O N E R” does an excellent job using drum machines and ominous synths to create the perfect dark, brooding backdrop.
Leon, an L.A. native, definitely comes from the BANKS mold of electronic-inspired pop artists, but her music has more energy to it as well as a far more industrial aesthetic. The track also closes with a screwed-and-chopped outro that is outright unsettling.
