Throwback: Buck Owens – Made in Japan
This week’s throwback is a Buck Owens single from 1972 called “Made in Japan.” The single was the last number one country hit that Owens made as a solo artist.
“Made in Japan” is a tonally absurd gem that combines the traditional country-western twang with a somewhat Japanese-sounding style. From the opening lines of “My transistor radio comes from far away, and when it’s night over here, over there it’s breaking day,” the song immediately showcases Owens’ accent and what he calls the “Bakersfield Sound.”
