Isaiahthe3rd – Upallnight + Path of Villains

Brooklyn MC Isaiahthe3rd has been making waves with his Sinner Sundays series, and the two latest tracks are a further testament to his unique voice and excellent ear for instrumentals.

“Upallnight” is a smooth, mysterious track that has shades of Section.80 Kendrick Lamar, which perfectly compliments Isaiah’s delivery. His voice is similar to Kendrick’s in pitch, and he has the kind of effortless flow where the lines seem to tumble out.

The beat, from producer IGNORVNCE is late-night perfection. Crisp, hard-hitting drums and a swirling electric piano form a hypnotic, uncluttered backdrop for Isaiah’s rhymes.

“Path of Villains” isn’t quite as laid-back, although with its boom-bap beat and sax-centric sample it does fit with the vintage New York hip-hop  sound. It’s a quick-hitter, but it firmly shows that Isaiah should be mentioned with artists like Pro Era and Bishop Nehru who draw from rap’s East Coast golden era.
