New York rapper Skizzy Mars has always been willing to use out-there samples, from trance to guitar-heavy indie rock, and he’s done that again by reworking Miniature Tigers’ “Used to be the Shit.”

Skizzy definitely veers into Kid Cudi territory on the track, singing almost the entire song and discussing his failed relationship and emotions with extreme candor.

He’s a better rapper than Cudi though, and his combination of braggadocio and wry humor makes him a compelling listen, even if he drops the occasional clunker line.
