While some New York artists like Joey Bada$$ and Bishop Nehru have found major success mining the classic ’90s NYC hip-hop sound, the globalization of today’s rap game means that most rappers are drawing their sonic influences from all over the nation.

New York-based JproD (pronounced like “jeopardy”) falls into the latter category. His flow, emphasis on lyricism and undeniable intelligence are clearly the mark of someone who grew up with gritty East Coast hip-hop, but he sounds perfectly at home riding over southern-style beats infused with trap hi-hats and blaring synths, as he does on his latest track “We Here Now (So Much Smoke).”
